Former Ducsu leader Akhter placed on 2-day remand

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Akhter Hossain, convener of Gonotantrik Chhatra Shakti, on a 2-day in a case filed on charge of obstructing police in performing their duties.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque gave this order after the hearing on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, Sub-inspector SM Ellias Mahmood of Shahbag police station, produced the accused before the court with a seven-day remand petition.

Shahbag Police Station General Registration Branch Officer Sub-Inspector Nizam Uddin Fakir gave this information.

He was arrested from the Raju sculpture area on Wednesday during the protest of the anti-discrimination student movement.

Akhtar Hossain and some other students started gathering at TSC on Wednesday noon. At that time, the police asked them to leave the TSC.

At one point, Akhtar Hossain sat down. Later he was picked up by some policemen in a prison van.

Sanarul Haque, sub-inspector of Shahbagh police station, filed the case.
