Shamima Nur Papia, the expelled Jubo Mohila League leader of Narsingdi, has been released on bail from the Central Jail in Comilla.
She was freed from jail on Monday evening.
Senior Jail Superintendent of Comilla Central Jail Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed Papia’s release.
He said that her bail documents reached at the jail in the afternoon and she was released after verification of her bail documents.
Abdullah Al Mamun also said that there are six cases against Papia. Earlier, a lower court sentenced her to 20 years in an Arms Act case. Later she got bail from the High Court.
The remaining five cases are pending.
She secured bail in a money laundering case filed at Gulshan police station on Monday.
In June 2023, Shamima Nur Papia was shifted from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur to Comilla Central Jail following an allegation of torturing a fellow inmate.
On October 12, 2020, A Dhaka court sentenced expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon to 27 years in prison each in an arms case.
On February 22, 2020, RAB arrested Papia and her husband, along with their accomplices, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with counterfeit banknotes, foreign currencies, and some cash.
