A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a two-day remand for the four accused, including the rape survivor's boyfriend, in the case of gang-rape of a young woman who was kept chained in a house in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
The accused are the rape survivor’s boyfriend Sun, Himel, Rocky, and Salma alias Jhumur.
Sub-Inspector Farukul Islam, the investigating officer of the case from Mohammadpur police station, presented the accused before the court after the initial three-day remand and requested a five-day extension.
The accused's lawyers applied for bail to cancel the remand, which was opposed by the state.
After hearing both sides, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam granted a two-day remand for each accused, confirmed Sub-Inspector Uttam Kumar of the General Registration Branch of Mohammadpur police station court.
On April 1, the court granted a three-day remand to the four accused.
The incident involved the young woman being kept chained and subjected to gang rape and physical torture for 25 days in a house in Nabinagar Housing under Mohammadpur police station.
She filed a case at Mohammadpur police station on the night of March 31 after being rescued by the police upon receiving a call to the National Emergency Service number 999 reporting her screams.
