Appeal filed against HC suspension of gazette on Abdul Hyee's victory

An appeal has been filed against the High Court's decision to suspend a gazette issued by the Election Commission (EC) declaring Md Abdul Hyee, the lawmaker for Jhenaidah-1 representing the Awami League, as the winner in the recent general election.

Abdul Hyee filed the appeal on Monday in the Appellate Division. Advocate Said Ahmed Raja represented him in the court.

On Thursday, the High Court suspended the gazette issued by the commission declaring Abdul Hyee as the winner in the 12th national election held on January 7.

Md Abdul Hyee was declared the winner as he bagged 94,379 votes, while his closest rival Nazrul Islam got 80,547 votes in the election.

Nazrul later filed a petition, accusing Hyee of violating the electoral code of conduct.

Earlier on January 2, a case was filed against Abdul Hyee for violating the electoral code of conduct.

On December 24, more two cases were filed against the lawmaker for violating the code of conduct.
