The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday warned Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court, for making “unconstitutional” remarks in the media about the oath taken by the MPs of the 11th parliament.
"Only the Supreme Court will interpret the verdict. Who are you to explain?” Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan said this to Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
In response, Barrister Khokon said: "I have only talked about the fiction in the verdict.”
Later, the Appellate Division did not hear Barrister Khokon's case.
On August 1, 2023, the Appellate Division dismissed the leave to appeal order against the writ that declared the oath of 290 MPs in the 11th Parliament illegal.
Later, Barrister Khokon spoke to various media about the verdict of the Appellate Division.
On January 3, 2019, a total of 290 MPs of the 11th parliament took oath.
