Three former ministers return to legal profession

Three former ministers of the Awami League government have recently returned to the Supreme Court to handle cases, donning the familiar attire of lawyers after fulfilling lengthy government duties.

They are Advocate Nurul Islam Sujan, Advocate SM Rezaul Karim, and Advocate Mahbub Ali. The trio engaged in a conversation in the chambers of the Supreme Court Bar Association on Sunday morning when fellow lawyers met them.

Upon returning to the legal profession, the ministers mentioned that they have been a part of the legal field for an extended period and have occasionally fulfilled ministerial duties.

They added that they have endeavored to carry out their responsibilities as directed by the prime minister. Although they are no longer in charge, they expressed confidence in the political maturity of their successors.

The former ministers hope that their replacements will perform well and continue the ministry's work effectively. They did not forget to mention how much they have missed their favorite premises, the Supreme Court.

Former Railway Minister and senior lawyer of the Supreme Court Nurul Islam Sujan had been elected as a Member of Parliament for Panchagarh-2. He returned to his Supreme Court chamber in the morning.

Meanwhile, SM Rezaul Karim, a senior lawyer in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, served as the Minister of Housing and Public Works in the previous government and later as the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock. He was away from the legal profession during his time in the ministry.

Additionally, Mahbub Ali, a senior advocate of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, served as the Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism during the previous government. After not winning in the 12th national parliamentary election, he has also returned to the legal profession.
