Shammi Ahmed moves Supreme Court again to get back candidacy

Barisal-4 Awami League candidate Shammi Ahmed has once again filed a writ petition with the chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to get back her cancelled candidacy to contest in the upcoming national polls.

She filed the petition on Thursday. Chamber Judge Justice M Enayetur Rahim is likely to hear her plea later in the day.

Earlier on Tuesday, the chamber judge upheld a High Court order that rejected a writ petition filed by Shammi Ahmed challenging the cancellation of her candidature.

On December 15, Awami League aspirant Shammi Ahmed crashed out of the election race as the Election Commission turned down her appeal against the cancellation of her candidacy by the returning officer concerned for having dual citizenship.

The Election Commission turned down the two petitions lodged by Shammi Ahmed following hearings at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.

The national polls are scheduled to be held on January 7.
