Independent candidate for Barisal-5 constituency Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah on Wednesday filed a petition with the Supreme Court chamber judge to get back his candidacy to contest in the upcoming national election.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan submitted the petition to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, on behalf of Sadiq, a former mayor of Barisal city.
The petition mentioned that he doesn't have dual citizenship, for which the Election Commission cancelled his nomination papers.
The petition is likely to be presented before the apex court chamber judge on Thursday.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chamber judge of the Appellate Division on Tuesday stayed the High Court order that overturned the EC's decision.
The High Court on Monday reinstated the candidacy of Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah.
Earlier on December 6, the Election Commission cancelled the candidacy of Sadiq Abdullah, also former Barisal mayor, over dual citizenship.
He sought the Awami League nomination for the seat, but Zaheed Farooque, the current Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Water Resources, secured the party's nomination.
Failing to obtain the party's nomination, Sadiq Abdullah sought nomination as an independent candidate.
