A Dhaka court has sentenced 10 BNP leaders and activists, including former Jubo Dal President Saiful Alam Nirob, to three years imprisonment in a case filed for arson in the capital's Tejgaon police station in 2013.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order on Monday.
The other convicts are Anwaruzzaman alias Anwar Commissioner, Lutfar Rahman, Shahin, Tariqul Islam Jhantu, Aminul Islam Zakir, Golam Kibria Shimul, Billal Hossain, Shahidul Islam and Zakir Hossain.
The court also issued arrest warrants against eight other fugitive accused.
According to the case statement, on March 26, the accused set fire to a taxi in the Karwan Bazar area in Dhaka. Later, the driver of the vehicle filed a case.
On August 14, 2014, Sub-Inspector Mahbubur Rahman of Tejgaon police station submitted a charge sheet to the court after investigating the case.
Later, the court framed charges against the accused and ordered the trial to begin.
