12 including Ishaq Sarker sentenced to prison

A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced 12 people, including Jubo Dal's Organizing Secretary Ishaq Sarker, to seven years imprisonment in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act in the capital's Kotwali police station.

Judge Mamunur Rahman Siddiqui of the Metropolitan Special Tribunal-10 of Dhaka handed down the sentence. 

Besides, they were fined Tk10,000 each, in default they were sentenced to six months imprisonment.

Assistant Public Prosecutor of the court Ataur Rahman confirmed this information.

Among those sentenced are- Imran Nahid, Shaheen, Sentu, Masum, Haider Ali Babla, Riaz Uddin, among others.

According to the complaint of the case, on March 8, 2015, the accused caused a cocktail explosion to make the hartal of BNP successful in the area adjacent to Babubazar Bridge under Kotwali police station. 

Rickshaw driver Kamal Hossain was injured. In this incident, Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman of Kotwali police station filed a case by mentioning the names of 13 people.

Investigating the case, Sub-Inspector Nazim Uddin accused 20 people and filed a charge sheet in the court.

During the trial of the case, the court accepted the testimony of eight people.
