Arson attack: 11 BNP men jailed, 26 acquitted

A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced Badda unit Jubo Dal President Jahangir Mollah and 10 others to three years in jail in a case filed in connection with an arson attack in Badda over 11 years ago. 

The court fined Tk3,000, in default, they have to suffer three months more in jail.Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzel Hossain handed down the verdict. The court also acquitted 26 other accused as the charges against them were not proved.

The other convicts are--Mannan Mollah, Kamruzzaman Swapan, Shayrul, Saiful Islam, Deepak Kumar Das, Shakil Ahmed, Abdur Rahim alias Titu, Babul, Refatul Alam and Jashim Dhali.

As the convicted are absconding, the court issued an arrest warrant against them.

The bench assistant of the concerned court Atiqul Islam confirmed the matter. According to the case statement, the convicted people threw brick bats targeting vehicles and torched a bus in the Maddhya Badda on 12 November, 2013, during BNP's 48 hours hartal.

Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Rahmat Ali of Badda police station filed the case.
