High Court petition seeks to prevent PM Hasina's resignation

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking direction that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should not resign until her successor comes.

The public interest litigation was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Mozammel Hossain.

A partial hearing on the petition took place on Tuesday before a High Court bench consisting of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat.

The court has fixed any day in the first week of November for the next hearing.

Named as respondents in the petition are the prime minister, the principal secretary to the prime minister, the law secretary, and six others.

Petitioner lawyer Mozammel Hossain said: "I fear that Sheikh Hasina may be compelled to resign, which could hinder development. I have filed this public interest litigation to ensure she does not resign for any reason."
