Odhikar’s Adilur, Nasiruddin file appeal against 2-year jail term

Adilur Rahman Khan, the secretary of the human rights organization Odhikar, and ASM Nasiruddin, the director of the organization have filed an appeal with the High Court against their two-year jail term in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

Adilur and Nasiruddin's lawyer Md Ruhul Amin Bhuiya said the appeal and bail petition were filed on Monday. 

The lawyer said: "On September 14, the lower court ordered Adilur Rahman Khan to be provided with first-class division facilities. However, it has not been granted yet."

On September 14, a Dhaka court sentenced Adilur Rahman Khan to two years in prison.

He was convicted of disseminating false information regarding an operation against Hefazat-e-Islam members at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka a decade ago.

ASM Nasiruddin also received a two-year prison sentence in the same case and both were fined Tk10,000 each.
