A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Ruma Sarker, assistant professor of Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, on two-day remand in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
She is accused of spreading a deceptive video on Facebook to protest against the communal attacks.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masud-ur-Rahman passed the order after Sub-Inspector Md Shofiqul Islam of Ramna police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.
Opposing the remand prayer, defence lawyer Liton Kumer Shaha submitted two separate petitions seeking bail and remand rejection for his client. But, the court rejected the both petition after hearing.

Ruma Sarker was picked up by the member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from her Baily Road residence on Wednesday morning.
Ruma had uploaded a video of the murder of one Shahinuddin in Dhaka’s Pallabi, claiming it to be the footage of the murder of Jatan Kumar Saha, who died in a mob attack in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila on October 15, RAB said.
Referring to the murder of Shahinuddin that took place on May 16 in Pallabi where he was brutally hacked to death, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan at an event on Tuesday said by spreading video footage of that incident, a vested group was trying to spread propaganda.
Communal tension has gripped Bangladesh over the past few days following the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran at a Durga Puja venue on October 13 which triggered violence in two dozen districts.
