A Rajshahi cyber tribunal on Monday convicted three persons and sentenced them to 10 years imprisonment each in case filed over involvement in making pornography and derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on social media platforms.
The convicted persons were identified as Aminul Ehsan, Jahirul Islam and Khokon Uddin. All are the residents of Ataikula upazila in Pabna district.
They were also fined Tk1 lakh each, in default, will suffer three months more behind the bar.
Judge Ziaur Rahman of the Rajshahi Divisional Cyber Tribunal found them guilty of the charge and handed down the verdict in presence of them in the court.
Seven other accused of the case were acquitted as the charge brought against them could not be proved.
Public Prosecutor Adv Ismat Ara told journalists that police arrested the three persons on charge of their involvement in the cyber offense on November 2, 2013. Subsequently, upon completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing ten persons.
The tribunal examined the recorded depositions of prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence and pronounced the aforesaid verdict, said the public prosecutor.
