The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a High Court order that maintained the death sentence of a man convicted in a case lodged over rape and subsequent murder of eight-year- old girl.
The Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order, dismissing the appeal filed by convict Md Shukur Ali.
Rajshahi Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal convicted and sentenced Shukur to death on January 30, 2008. The death reference of the judgement was later sent to the High Court and the convict too filed an appeal against the lower court judgement.
The High Court on May 13, 2013, upheld the lower court verdict, making the convict challenge the judgement before the apex court.
