High Court fixes July 5 for hearing on Central Hospital doctor Mili’s bail

The High Court has fixed the date regarding the anticipatory bail of Begum Maksuda Farida Akhter Milli, a doctor of the Central Hospital in the capital, on July 5.

The court gave this order after Dr Milli applied for bail in the case of death of newborn and mother due to wrong treatment.

Deputy Attorney General Sujit Chatterjee Bappi confirmed the information on Monday.

He said that the High Court bench consisting of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Biswajit Debnath passed the order.

According to the case documents, Mahbuba Rahman Akhi, who was expecting her first child, had been under treatment of Professor Dr Sangjukta Saha at Central Hospital for the last three months.

Akhi was admitted to the hospital at 12:50pm on June 9 as she went into labour. Though Prof Saha was not present at the hospital at the time, the hospital authorities allegedly bluffed the patient's family, saying she is in the hospital and will operate on Akhi.

When attempts for a natural birth failed, an emergency c-section was performed, resulting in the birth of a child who died the following day.

In this regard, Akhi's husband Yakub Ali filed a case of negligent death in the Dhanmondi police station.

The Central Hospital authorities suggested Yakub Ali to shift Akhi to another hospital; thus, Akhi was admitted into Labaid.

Mahbuba Rahman Akhi passed away on June 18 at the cardiac care unit (CCU) of Labaid Hospital.
