Charge sheet filed in court against singer Rituraj in drug case

A charge sheet has been filed against Singer Rituraj Vaidya, who gained popularity by singing at Coke Studio Bangla.

He was arrested by the police two months ago in a drunken state. In this incident, the police filed a case against him under the Narcotics Act at Gulshan police station in the capital.

After investigating the case, the police filed a charge sheet against him in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, said Gulshan police station Court General Registration Branch Officer Police Sub-Inspector Jalal Uddin on Monday.

He said that on June 12, the investigating officer of the case, Deputy Inspector of Gulshan police station Md Eskandar Ali Sardar submitted the charge sheet.

According to sources related to the case, on the night of April 17, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Mahmudur Rahman was taken to Gulshan by his driver Atul Chandra Mandal. Atul Chandra parked the car on the side of the main road in front of Rupayan Tower in Gulshan. It was during this time that Rituraj, in an inebriated state, approached the car, halted it, and demanded that it move. Growing impatient with the delay, he became agitated.

The complaint further alleged that Rituraj vandalized the government vehicle by damaging the flag stand, left side mirror, and left side headlight cover. Moreover, he attempted to assault Atul with the flag stand but was unsuccessful.

Following the failed attempt, Rituraj physically attacked Atul, causing injuries, and snatched Tk3,250 from him. Subsequently, he proceeded to subject the car to further damage and left the scene after intimidating Atul in various ways.

As the plaintiff, Sub-Inspector Hosne Mubarak of Gulshan police station filed a case against Rituraj under the Narcotics Control Act in connection with this incident.

On April 18, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury ordered Rituraj's detention in jail. This arrest was made in relation to the case of vandalizing the car belonging to the secretary of Gulshan police station. Atul Chandra Mandal, the driver, filed this case as the plaintiff.

Later, Rituraj was released on bail in the drug case on April 25, and subsequently, on April 30, he secured bail in two separate cases of assault and vandalism. Currently, he is out on bail.
