High Court rules on marriage registration, divorce of Hindu women

The High Court has issued a ruling seeking to know why the authorities' inaction in granting marriage registration, divorce rights, guardianship, and inheritance rights to Hindu women (in implementation of women's rights) should not be declared illegal.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Mohammad Mahabub ul Islam gave this order after hearing the writ filed by nine organizations to implement women's rights on Sunday.

The law ministry secretary and those concerned have been asked to respond to this rule within the next four weeks.

Earlier, human rights organization Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), BLAST, among nine organizations, filed a writ in the High Court seeking directions to formulate a policy to ensure the legal rights of Hindu women and remove the inconsistencies in the Hindu Marriage Act.
