The High Court on Thursday asked the authorities concerned to purchase savings certificates worth Tk13.11 lakh for the baby girl Fatema and her two siblings who lost their parents and a sister in a fatal road accident in Mymensingh on July 16 last year.
Also, the trustee board formed for providing compensation to the girl, and her family was asked to pay the compensation so that the family can get by with the dividends from the savings certificates.
A High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order after a writ petition was filed seeking compensation.
Syed Mahsib Hossain stood for the writ petitioner, Deputy Attorney General Tusar Kanti Roy represented the state while lawyer Rafiul Islam stood for the trustee board during the hearing in the court.
Mahsib said several benevolent people and organizations donated Tk13.11 lakh to the deputy commissioner (DC) of Mymensingh after the baby girl Fatema was miraculously born while her mother Ratna Begum was dying after the fatal road accident.
The court asked the deputy commissioner to purchase the savings certificates so that Fatema, her brother Ibadat, sister, and her grandmother can survive, he said.
On July 16 last year, a tragic road accident near the court building area in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh left Jahangir Alam, 35, his pregnant wife Ratna Begum, 26, and their daughter Jannat Ara, 2, of Raymani village in the upazila, dead on the spot.
Jahangir Alam went to Trishal upazila headquarters with his eight-months pregnant wife and daughter for conducting a medical test.
While crossing the highway a speeding truck knocked them down, leaving all three family members dead on the spot, said police.
Miraculously the baby girl was born before the mother died on the road and she was taken to the upazila health complex by locals.
