Writ filed seeking directions to remove posters from flyovers

A writ petition was filed in the High Court seeking directions to remove various advertisement writings and posters from the walls of all flyovers in Dhaka.

Advocates Md Sarwar Ahad and Ripon Barai filed the writ on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) on last Thursday. 

The petitioner's lawyers confirmed the information on Sunday. 

The writ is likely heard by a High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice  Ahmed Sohel.

The writ petition also sought directions to form a monitoring committee to stop putting posters and writing on flyover walls. Besides, instructions have been sought for the implementation of the Graffiti Writing and Poster Sticking Control Act, 2012.

In the writ, the secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives secretaries, two city corporations of Dhaka, the chief engineers of the local government department, the chairman of Rajuk and the police commissioner of Dhaka have been made defendants.

The writ petition said according to the Graffiti Writing and Poster Sticking Control Act, 2012, graffiti or posters shall not be put up at any place other than the designated place.
