High Court imposes travel ban on bdnews24 editor

The High Court on Thursday issued a ban on Toufique Imrose Khalidi, editor-in-chief of the online news portal bdnews24.com, from traveling abroad until the next hearing in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order while holding a hearing on a rule issued on the question of scrapping his bail.

The court also fixed December 1 for the next hearing, stating that the continuation of the ban would be discussed that day.

On December 8, 2020, the court issued a rule asking the state and Khalidi to explain why the lower court order that granted him bail in the case should not be scrapped.

On August 26, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Khalidi for eight weeks in the corruption case. The anti-graft body later filed a plea against the bail order.

ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar filed the case on July 30, 2020, against Khalidi for depositing around Tk42 crore in different bank accounts, saying Khalidi had no legal source against this sum.

The ACC alleged that Khalidi amassed the money through illegal means.
