Mahila Dal leader Sultana sent to jail in DSA case

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent General Secretary of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal Sultana Ahmed to jail in connection with a case filed under Digital Security Act. 

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after Paltan police station Sub-Inspector Md Ashraful Alam, also investigation officer of the case, produced her before the court on completion of her two-day remand in the case.

The defence lawyers submitted bail petition and also submitted an application seeking first-class division in jail custody considering her social status.

After hearing both the sides, the magistrate ordered to send her to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

The magistrate also directed jail authorities to provide her first-class division if the jail code allows it.

On Sunday, Sultana was arrested from her Gulshan residence by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members for making derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Abdul Hamid, former president of Gopalganj District Chhatra League, filed the case at Paltan police station in the capital on Sunday.
