A Dhaka court on Tuesday rejected a plea to submit a case against six policemen, including two OCs of Shahbagh and Ramna police stations, over the custodial death of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Tejgaon unit acting president Zakir Hossain Milon in 2018.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge Asaduzzaman dismissed the plea, said Tapas Kumar Pal, additional public prosecutor of the court.
Earlier on October 12, Milan's uncle BM Wali Ullah submitted a plea to file a case under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act, 2013.
The court accepted the statement of the plaintiff and fixed Tuesday for the order.
The other accused in the case application are - Ramna Model police station OC Kazi Mainul Islam, Shahbag police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sujan Kumar Roy, SI Saidur Rahman Munshi, SI Amal Krishna and SI Shahriar Reza.
Some five other unnamed police officers were also made accused, reports Bangla Tribune.
Plainclothes police arrested Milon on March 6, 2018, when he was on his way home after attending a BNP human chain in front of the National Press Club.
He was put on a three-day remand on March 8 of the same year, after which he was sent to jail.
Later, on March 12, six days after the arrest, Milon died.
BNP alleged that Milon had suffered “brutal torture during remand” and succumbed to his injuries.
Refuting the allegation, police said Milon had fallen sick in jail and was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
