A case has been filed against 22 people, including the mayor of Baraiyarhat municipality, who was shot over a dispute regarding sand extraction in Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong.
The case was filed in the court of Feni Senior Judge Kamrul Hasan by Nurul Alam, by the manager of Pratyaya Enterprises owned by Fazilpur Union Parishad Chairman Mojibul Haque Ripon.
The lawyer of the plaintiff, Bulbul Ahmed Sohag, said that the court has ordered the officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Model police station to take further steps regarding the case.

According to the case statement, Mayor Rezaul Karim Khokon instructed the miscreants to shoot. Later, with the help of two of the accused, they took sand in five boats, which is worth Tk300,000.
The miscreants also vandalized some boats, which are worth Tk700,000, the case statement reads.
On October 14, three people including the mayor of Baraiyarhat municipality were shot in Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong.
Mayor Rezaul Karim Khokon, who is also general secretary of the Awami League’s Baraiyarhat municipality unit, Ashok Sen, labour affairs secretary of Hinguli union Awami League, and Shahid Khan Dukhu, a Jubo League leader from Osmanpur union, were shot and wounded at in the Muhuri Project area.
Mofizul Haque, chairman of Osmanpur union parishad, said the mayor visited the area after learning about illegal sand extraction there.
