Rahima Begum case: 4 arrestees secure bail

A Khulna court on Tuesday granted bail to four people who were arrested in a case filed over the disappearance of Rahima Begum.

Khulna Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mahmuda Khanam passed the order after hearing the bail petitions filed by the family members of the arrestees.

The four are - Golam Kibria, Mohiuddin, Rafiqul Islam Palash, and Md Jewel, said Khulna unit Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Mushfiqur Rahman.

He also mentioned that Rahima Begum’s husband Bellal Ghatak alias Belal Howladar was not granted bail at the hearing.

Meanwhile, Helal Sharif, who was also arrested in this case did not get bail yet, as his papers were presented at Khulna Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

A bail hearing may be held on Thursday, said the arrestee’s wife Monira Akhter.

Rahima, whose family claimed she had gone missing, was found after 29 days on September 24, but not before her family members had filed a case, leading to six arrests.

Police initially suspected that she had left her home due to some family dispute over land.

The entire incident was diverted when her daughter Moriom Mannan claimed to have identified her dead body on September 22.

However, the police rescued her from a house in Faridpur on September 24.
