4 to die for Cox’s Bazar student murder

A court in Cox’s Bazar sentenced four people to death and two others to life term in jail for the 2016 murder of a university student. 

Judge Md Ismail of Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court delivered the verdict on Wednesday.

The death-row convicts are Rezaul Karim, 20, Nurul Haque, 22, Ramjan Ali, 24, and Rubel, 20.

Those given life terms are Shaheen Uddin, 19, and Moni Alam, 19. The court also fined them Tk50,000 each.

Advocate Faridul Alam, public prosecutor of Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

According to the case details, the deceased Faisal, son of Md Nurul Anwar of Machuakhali village, was a fifth semester student of the Department of Law at Cox’s Bazar International University.

He used to protest the sale of drugs in his area, which resulted in a conflict with drug traders. Following this, drug traders attacked him on April 16, 2016. The doctor declared him dead when he was taken to the Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
