Rajshahi Shibir activist jailed for 10 years for cybercrime

A Rajshahi trial court on Monday convicted a person and sentenced him to ten years behind the bar on charges of his involvement in cybercrimes around five years back.

Rajshahi Divisional Cyber Tribunal Judge Ziaur Rahman found the accused guilty of the charge and handed down the verdict in presence of the convict.  

The court also fined the convict Abdul Mukit alias Raju, of Haripur village under Paba upazila, Tk1,000,000 in default to suffer one year more in jail. 

He was the president of Haripur Union unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Public Prosecutor Ismat Ara told journalists that Saidur Rahman, president of Haripur Unit Bangladesh Awami League, had lodged the case with Paba police station against Mukit related to his involvement in cybercrimes on May 27, 2017.

Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed charges against him.

After examining recorded depositions of the enlisted prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence, the tribunal pronounced the verdict.
