Man gets life term for killing wife in Chittagong

A Chittagong court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife over a family dispute in 2016.

The convict was identified as Alek Shah, 37, hailing from Kendua Chitulia area of Netrakona.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman delivered the verdict on Monday based on the testimony of 11 people, said Public Prosecutor Mohammad Fakhruddin Chowdhury.

The court also imposed a fine of Tk50,000 and imprisonment for one more year for non-payment.

According to the case, on the night of October 25, 2016, Alek killed his 25-year-old wife Asha Moni by suffocation due to a family dispute at Ambia Bhaban under EPZ police station.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for an autopsy. The law enforcers also arrested Alek from his home on the day of the murder.

The same day, the victim's mother filed a murder case with EPZ police station.  

Following investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against Alek Shah on December 6 last.
