A Dhaka Court on Friday sent Rajshahi BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand to jail after remand in a case filed over a death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
After producing him in court, Chawkbazar police station Inspector (Operation) Zakir Hossain asked the court to keep him in jail until the investigation is over.
Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib rejected Chand's bail application and ordered that he be sent to jail.
Earlier, on May 25, Chhatra League leader Ashikur Rahman Anu filed the case at Dhaka's Chawkbazar police station.
Rajshahi police arrested Chand on May 25 after his threat. After that, he was remanded and interrogated twice.
Chand made the threat against the prime minister at a rally of the BNP in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi as part of the party's central program.
"No more 27- or 10-point demand, just one point now – send Sheikh Hasina to the grave! We will do whatever is necessary to get Sheikh Hasina to resign,” he said.
Meanwhile, a video of the threat went viral on social media, triggering a series of protests by Awami League leaders and supporters.
