A Dhaka court has rejected the BNP's petition to register a case against Detective Branch (DB) chief Harun-ur-Rashid and nine others over vandalism of the party's Naya Paltan office last year.
Nazimuddin Alam, a member of the BNP's executive committee, submitted the petition in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury's court on Sunday.
The court rejected the petition after taking the statement of the plaintiff.
Others named in the petition were additional police commissioners Asaduzzaman and K Mohiuddin, join police commissioners Sanjit Kumar Roy, Mehedi Hasan and Biplab Kumar Sarker, Deputy Police Commissioner Hayatul Islam Khan, Assistant Commissioner Golam Ruhani, and Ansar member Al Amin. Some 200-300 unnamed police officers were also mentioned.
The plaintiff claimed that on December 7, DB chief Harun along with 10-12 other police officers forced entry into the BNP's Naya Paltan office, before "vandalizing and looting it".
On December 7 last year, a Swechchasebak Dal leader was killed and around 50 others were injured in a clash between the police and BNP activists before the party's Naya Paltan central office -- ahead of its December 10 rally -- which was followed by the law enforcement agency raiding the party headquarters.
