Savar teacher murder: Prime suspect Jitu on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Ashraful Islam Jitu, the prime suspect in the murder of Ashulia teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar, on a five-day remand.

Judge Rajib Hasan of Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court ordered the remand.

Earlier, Ashulia police station produced Jitu in court seeking a 10-day remand, said court inspector Motiur Rahman.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested Ashraful Islam Jitu, a tenth-grader of Haji Yunus Ali School and College.

RAB-1arrested him from Nagarhaola village in Sreepur of Gazipur, he said.

Jitu thrashed his teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar with a cricket stump to impress a girl at his school, according to RAB.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Dhaka court placed Ujjal, Jitu’s father, on five-day remand.
