Seven-murder death row convict and former ward councillor Nur Hossain and three others were presented before a Narayanganj court on Tuesday morning in a drugs case.
The three others are Selim, Jamal Uddin and Ali Mohammad, who were also sentenced in the sensational seven-murder case.
They were taken to the court amidst heightened security in the morning, Public Prosecutor Moniruzzaman confirmed.
According to Moniruzzaman, on May 29, 2014, police found 2,975 bottles of Phensedyl during a raid in Siddhirganj area.
Ten people including Nur Hossain were accused in a case filed by Sub-Inspector Showkat Hossain of Siddhirganj Police.
Among the ten, four are in jail, four out on bail and two are on the run.
Two of the accused now on bail, Masud Rana and Jahangir Ali Ripon, also appeared before the court.
Meanwhile, the counsels of the other two accused Nur Uddin and Shah Jalal sought more time for them to appear.
Both Nur Uddin and his nephew Shah Jalal are contesting the upcoming Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections for the post of ward councillor.
The other two accused, Shah Jahan and Salauddin, are on the run.
On January 5, police confisticated a mobile phone from the possession of Nur Hossain, who is currently awaiting execution in a condemned cell for the Narayanganj seven murders.
A probe body headed by the prison’s deputy superintendent has been formed to figure out how the device was smuggled into the prison.
On April 27, 2014, seven people, including NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker, were abducted from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.
Their bodies were later found floating in the Shitalakkhya River.
Following the incident, Nazrul’s widow Selina Islam Beauty filed a case against six people while Chandan’s son-in-law filed another case.
On January 16, 2017 Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Court found 35 people, including Nur and 25 ex-RAB officials, guilty of abduction and murder of the seven people and also destroying evidence.
On August 22 of the same year, the High Court upheld the death sentence of 15 convicts, including Nur and three Rapid Action Battalion officials, and commuted the penalty of 11 others to life in jail in the two cases filed over the murders.
