Suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director Khandaker Enamul Basir on Monday pleaded not guilty and demanded justice in a case filed over the transaction of Tk40 lakh as bribe.
Special Court-4 Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam read out the charges from the statements of prosecution witnesses.
In reply to a question of the court, the accused said they would place their self-defence statement in written format in the case. The court has fixed January 12 for the next hearing.
On February 9, 2020, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Emrul Kayesh accepted the charge sheet and transferred the case for further proceedings.
On July 16, 2019, ACC Director Sheikh Md Fanafillah filed the case with the ACC's Integrated District Office in Dhaka under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, on charges of taking Tk40 lakh in bribe from Mizanur Rahman.
Both the officials were suspended from their respective agencies after the allegations were lodged against them.
Mizanur leaked a couple of audio clips, saying he gave the bribe to Khandaker Enamul Basir to suppress the graft allegations brought against him.
