A Dhaka court on Sunday placed model Faria Mahabub Piasha on a two-day police remand in a case filed over the alleged rape and murder of college student Mosarrat Jahan Munia.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessi Begum passed the order after hearing a seven-day remand plea submitted by case investigation officer (IO) Golam Moktar Md Ashrafuddin of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
Earlier in the day, Piasha was also shown arrested in the case filed on September 6 following a petition submitted by the IO.
Sub-Inspector Swapon Kumar, general recording officer of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The court also rejected Piasha’s bail plea before sending her to police remand.
On September 7, another Dhaka court had given the PBI till October 6 to file its investigation report after taking the First Information Report into cognizance.

On September 6, Munia’s elder sister Nusrat Jahan Tania had filed the case with Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 8 against Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, his son and the group’s Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, and six others.
The six others are Bashundhara chairman’s wife Afroza Akter, Sayem’s wife Sabrina Sobhan, models Piasha and Saifa Rahman Mim, owner of Munia’s flat Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon and his wife Sharmim Akhter.
After an initial hearing, the court had asked Gulshan police to accept the allegations as FIR.
Earlier, Nusrat had filed a case accusing Sayem of abetting Munia’s suicide. A Dhaka court cleared Anvir of the charges on August 18 after holding a hearing on the police’s final report. The court also rejected the no-confidence petition Nusrat filed.
Munia’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room in her posh Gulshan flat on April 26.
Sayem and Munia had been in a relationship for around two years and he visited her flat regularly, police said after investigation.
