Former JCD president, 3 others sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Thursday sent four people to jail, including former president of BNP's student body Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Rajib Ahsan, in a case lodged for obstructing police from performing duties.

The other three accused are: former JCD joint secretary Abdur Rahman, JCD leaders Rafikul Islam and Ashraful Islam.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessy passed the order when police produced the accused before the court with a plea to place them on three-day remand in the case lodged with Dhanmondi police station.

The court set September 13 to hold a hearing on the matter and sent the four to jail.

Police detained the accused from Dhanmondi Lake area on Wednesday night as they were strolling there suspiciously and filed the case as they tried to obstruct the police from performing their duties while detaining them.
