A Dhaka court on Monday sent Monir Khan alias Dorji Monir, president of the so-called "Bangladesh Jananetri Sheikh Hasina Parishad," to jail in a fraud and extortion case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiduzzaman Sharif passed the order after police produced the accused before the court at the end of his remand in the case lodged with Kamrangirchar police station.

A court on August 4 placed Monir Khan on four-day remand in the case. Victim Ismail Hossain filed the case on August 3.
Monir, who was actually a tailor working at the capital's Ramna Bhaban, allegedly started identifying himself as a leader of Awami League. He even formed an organization under the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and used to extort money from various people by claiming to be a member of the ruling party.
He created several photographs of himself with various dignitaries of the country by using Photoshop. He then took money from many people by promising benefits that they never received.
