A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Azharul Islam, Dhaka city unit organizing secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam’s recently dissolved committee, on a five-day remand in a subversion case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devabrata Biswas issued the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case filed with Jatrabari police station.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested Azharul from the capital’s Jatrabari area early on Tuesday.

Hefazat-e-Islam ran riot across the country, while protesting the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March. Police found Azharul’s involvement in Hefazat’s anarchy in the capital.
Apart from this, he is accused of taking part in Hefazat-e-Islam’s atrocities in the capital’s Shapla Chattar area on May 5, 2013, where they unleashed inexpressible atrocities in and around the capital.
