The High Court (HC) on Tuesday refused to grant bail to Mohsin Talukdar in a case filed for threatening to kill renowned Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan in November last year, reports media.
The accused cannot be released from jail following the HC rule, Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah told a newspaper.
However, the court also issued a rule asking the state to explain in four weeks why Mohsin Talukdar should not be granted bail in the case.
The bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Badruzzaman issued the rule following a bail petition filed by Mohsin.
Mohsin was arrested on November 17 last year, after he threatened to kill Shakib Al Hasan for allegedly inaugurating a puja mandap in Kolkata, India on November 15. He began streaming on Facebook Live from his personal account at 12:06am and said he would slaughter Shakib.
Mohsin apologized for the words in another Facebook Live stream the next day.
Police filed a case against Mohsin with Sylhet's Sadar police station on November 16 and arrested him the next day. His family expressed distress at his actions and said he was mentally unstable.
