A Dhaka court has sentenced a mother and her lover to death for the brutal murder of her four-year son Samiul Ajim Wafi in 2010.
Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge-4 handed down the verdict in the case on Sunday.
The two convicted accused are – the victim’s mother Ayesha Humaira Esha and her lover Md Shamsuzzaman Arif alias Bakku.
On June 23, 2010, the child was brutally killed by his mother Ayesha Humaira Esha with the help of her lover Md Shamsuzzaman Arif alias Bakku in her house at Dhaka’s Adabor area.
Both the convicts were tried in absentia as they went into hiding after receiving bail from the court.
The court recorded depositions of 22 PWs out of 31 since the trial began against the accused and framed charges in the case on February 1, 2011.
Samiul’s father KM Azim filed the case with Adabar Police Station on the same day accusing his wife Esha and her lover Bakku in this connection.
On October 25, 2011, Adabar police station Officer-in-charge Kazi Shahin Haque submitted a charge sheet against Samiul’s mother Esha and her lover Bakku in the case.
According to the charge sheet, the accused murdered the four-year-old Samiul as he found out about his mother’s illicit relationship with Bakku.
Following the sensational murder, RAB arrested Esha and Bakku. On June 28, 2010, Bakku informed RAB that the victim’s mother assisted him in killing the child.
The court did not indict Bakku’s wife Nadia Akhter Shathi as her involvement with the murder has not been proved.
