A court has sentenced two sacked officials of Jamuna Bank Rajshahi branch to 20 years rigorous imprisonment in a case of embezzling Tk3.19 crore through loan fraud.
The duo has also been fined Tk16,010,000 each.
According to court sources, the verdict was given by the Rajshahi Divisional Special Judge's Court on Sunday after the trial of the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Both the convicts Abrar Hossain Khan and Mazharul Islam are currently absconding.
According to the details of the case, in 2013, a loan of Tk3.19 crore was allotted in the name of Khandaker Mainul Islam, the then vice-president and contractor of the district BNP.
Later, it was found that Khandaker Mainul took the loan with the connivance of the two officials with a fake work order of Bhola Water Development Board and other documents.
After investigation, ACC filed the charge sheet of the case in 2017. As Khandaker Mainul had already passed away by then, the two officials were accused in the case.
Earlier, on November 9, the two fugitive former bankers were sentenced to five years in prison for embezzling Tk1.28 crore.
