MC College Gang Rape: High Court fixes Nov 1 for next hearing

The High Court has fixed November 1 as the next hearing date over the submitted investigation report of the gang rape that took place at Murari Chand (MC) College, Sylhet, on September 25.

The bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim fixed the date on Tuesday after the state lawyer Barrister Nawroz MR Chowdhury submitted the probe committee report.

The Attorney General’s office received the report on Monday.

Earlier on September 29, the High Court ordered to form probe committee over the MC College gang rape and gave 15 days to submit its report to the registrar general of the Supreme Court.

The matter was brought to the court’s attention by Advocate Mohammad Misbah Uddin after he produced a newspaper report of the incident.

The court also issued a rule concerning the incident and expressed frustration with the negligence of college authorities both before and after the rape took place.

According to the case statement filed by the rape-survivour’s husband, when he stopped his car at the front gate of MC College to buy some cigarettes, the accused in the case started teasing his wife. Later the accused drove the couple to the college hostel where they committed the heinous crime.

On September 25, the husband filed the rape case at Shah Poran police station accusing the six (with names mentioned) and two-three unnamed men.

The six accused initially named in the case were Rony, Mahfuzur, Robiul, Arjun Lasker, Tarekul Islam alias Tarek, and Saifur.

One Ainuddin and Md Rajon, were later named in the case. All of the accused gave their confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after they were taken to remand. 

All of them are Chhatra League activists.
