PK Halder asks HC for security to return home

Prashanta Kumar Halder, former managing director of NRB Global Bank and Reliance Finance Limited, has filed an application with the High Court seeking security so that he may return to Bangladesh.

Earlier, PK Halder had fled the country while facing allegations of being involved in the embezzlement of around TK3,600 crore.

In addition to asking for security, he also said he wished to discuss how to return the embezzled money.

Barrister Mahfuzur Rahman Milon filed the petition on behalf of PK Halder with the High Court bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar on Monday.

During the hearing, the court asked the lawyer to inform of PK Halder’s arrival date and flight details. Later, the court said it would announce its decision after hearing from the state and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The court also said Halder would have to stay in legal custody after arriving in the country, Advocate Kurshid ALam Khan told Dhaka Tribune.

On January 21, the High Court ordered to freeze the bank accounts and passports of 20 people, including PK Halder.
