JKG's Dr Sabrina moves HC to freeze fraud case

JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury has moved the High Court seeking a stay order on the proceedings of the case filed against her on charges of committing fraud and forgery.

She also filed an appeal against a trial court order seeking relevant documents of the case, her counsel Advocate Syfuzzaman Tuhin told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.

On June 23, a case was filed with Tejgaon police station against six people, including JKG CEO Ariful Chowdhury, over fake Covid-19 test reports.

Police arrested Ariful and five other former and current employees of the organization the same day. Sabrina was arrested on July 12 for her alleged involvement in the scam.

Following her arrest Sabrina was suspended from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), where she worked as a cardiac surgeon. She and her husband Ariful have been remanded twice.

Earlier on Thursday, a Dhaka court remanded her for two days in a case filed by the Election Commission for obtaining two national identity cards (NIDs).
