A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against 23 people with Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court 3, including the recently suspended OC of Teknaf police station, Pradeep Pradeep Kumar Das, over a murder.
Nurul Hossain, brother of Mahmudur Rahman -- who was killed in a reported gunfight last year -- tried to file a murder case around 2pm on Wednesday.
But, instead of documenting the case, Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court 3 Judge Md Helal Uddin, after a hearing, directed the freshly appointed Teknaf police station chief to look for any other case lodged over the incident.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Insafur Rahman, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “On March 26, 2019, a group of policemen, led by SI Deepak, detained Mahmudur Rahman, an expatriate, and took him to Teknaf police station.”
“Later, SI Deepak and ex-OC Pradeep demanded Tk10 lakh from his family members threatening that Mahmudur will be put under crossfire.”
“Mahmudur’s family became helpless and were forced to give Tk5 lakh as a bribe to the police to save his life. But police kept asking for the other Tk5 lakh.”

“And at one point, on March 31 last year, Mahmudur was killed in a reported gunfight,” he added.
The extrajudicial killings happening under the jurisdiction of Pradeep Kumar Das recently gained nationwide attention after Major (rtd) Sinha was shot dead at a police check-post on Marine Drive Road between Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf on the night of July 31.
On August 5, Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a case with the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Teknaf against nine policemen, including Pradeep and Liakat.
On August 6, seven of the accused surrendered in court, which sent them to jail after scrapping their bail pleas.
Pradeep Kumar Das, Inspector Liakat Ali, and Nanda Dulal were taken into RAB custody for questioning on August 18.
