Court directs police to interrogate journalist Plabon’s younger brother

A Dhaka court on Sunday directed police to interrogate journalist Rezaul Karim Plabon’s younger brother Nizam Uddin at jail gate in a case filed against the journalist for torture, demanding dowry and killing the unborn child of his wife.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondol issued the order when Subrata Debnath, sub-inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station and investigation officer of the case, produced Nizam before court seeking 5-day remand for interrogation.

The court directed the investigation officer to interrogate the accused at jail gate within three working days.

Defense counsel Amullo Kumer Debnath filed bail and remand rejection prayers before the court. After hearing the petitions, the metropolitan magistrate rejected them both and asked police to interrogate Nizam at jail.

Nizam, was arrested by the police from his house at Chilmari in Kurigram on Friday night.

Sajida Islam Parul, a journalist at the Daily Samakal, filed a case against five people including her ex-husband Rezaul Karim Plabon, a staff reporter of the daily Jugantor, with Hatirjheel police station on May 11.
