A court has rejected the bail plea of Kamal Hossain alias Haji Kamal, 55, one of the ringleaders of the human trafficking ring, in connection with the killing of 26 Bangladeshis in Libya, and sent him to jail.
Bhatara police Sub-Inspector (SI), and also investigation officer (IO), Nurul Islam produced Kamal in front of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for bail petition on Tuesday.
He also pleaded the court to keep him in jail till the investigation of the case filed against him under the Passport Act is completed.
Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman rejected Kamal's bail petition and ordered him to be sent to jail.
Munshi Zaman Hossain of Bhatara police station's general registration branch confirmed the matter.
Earlier, a team of RAB-3 apprehended Haji Kamal from Shahjadpur area in Dhaka around 5:15am on Monday.
At least two of the 26 people killed and 11 injured in a gun attack by some human traffickers in Libya were sent there by Kamal, according to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
RAB claimed that Kamal admitted that the deceased Lal Chand and injured Tarikul had gone to Libya with his help. However, RAB also suspects that Kamal had sent several others among those killed and wounded in Libya.
The abductors received money through Kamal. He was also putting pressure on the families for the money, RAB said.
He has sent 350-400 people to Libya in the last 10-12 years and many others to various Middle Eastern countries,” said the RAB.
