Seven to die over farmer murder in Narsingdi

A Narsingdi court sentenced seven people, including four members of a family, to death for killing a farmer in Polash upazila of the district. Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court Mohammad Shahin Uddin passed the order on Monday. The convicts Alek Miah, Rupban, Sharif Miah, Arif Miah, Abdul Gaffar, Marfat Ali and Tota Miah of Galimpur village hacked farmer Shamsul Haque to death on August 30, 2009. The court also fined them Tk20,000 each. According to case statement, the convicts hacked the farmer and his son. They were rushed the hospital with severe injuries after the incident. Later, doctors declared him dead. The court also sentenced the five other accused to five years imprisonment in the case filed for attempt to kill Shamsul’s son Jahirul and fined them Tk10,000 each. They will have to suffer six-month more in jail if don’t pay the fine. The court also acquitted 13 other accused in the case as the allegations brought against them could not be proved.
