Mirpur police station in the capital submitted a charge sheet against an 11-month-old boy and a dead man in a theft case filed with the police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Khurshid Alam on Tuesday summoned Sub-Inspector Maruful Islam, the case investigation officer (IO), to appear before the court on May 16 to explain why the boy was charge sheeted.
The court also ordered him to explain why a person who died three years ago was included in the charge sheet.
The court order came after defence counsel Shafiqul Islam moved a petition before the court seeking exemplary punishment for the IO and complaints for including the child and the deceased.
On February 27, SI Maruful Islam submitted the charge sheet in the case against 23 people, including 11-month-old Rubel and Arifur Rahman who died on July 31, 2013.
The case was filed by Habibur Rahman, a resident of Mirpur area, on charges of “unlawful gathering and theft” with the police station on June 26, 2016.
