Kalyanpur raid: Order on charge frame hearing March 2

A Dhaka court has set March 2 to decide whether it will frame charges against ten militants in a case filed over Kalyanpur raid.

Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Special TribunalJudge Md Majibur Rahman set the date on Thursday, after police produced seven accused before it.

Meanwhile, the defence filed separate discharge petitions for three of the accused, Abdur Rouf Prodhan, Mufti Moulana Abul Kashem and Salah Uddin Kamran with the court seeking their discharge from the case.

Earlier in the day, the accused, including six death-row convicts in Holey Artisan attack case, were produced before the court in the case filed over a raid conducted at a militant den in Kalyanpur area in 2016.

The seven handcuffed accused, wearing helmets and bulletproof vests, were brought to the court in the morning.

Public Prosecutor Md Golam Shariar Khan Zakir said: “They were produced before the court in a case filed with Mirpur police station under Counter-Terrorism Act.”

On July 18, 2019, the court took into cognizance the charge sheet submitted against ten accused. Of them two accused Abdur Rouf Prodhan and Mufti Moulana Abul Kashem alias Boro Huzur are now on bail, while another named Azadul alias Kabiraj Heartbeat is on the run.

Among other accused -- Rakibul Islam Regan, Abdus Sabur Khan alias Sohel Mahfuz, Md Aslam Hossain alias Rashed alias Ryash, Hadisur Rahman Sagar, Mamunur Rashid Ripon, and Shariful Islam Khaled, were handed down death penalty in the Holey Artisan Bakery attack case on November 27.

On July 26, 2016, "Operation Storm 26" was conducted at a hideout of militants in Kalyanpur to find the masterminds of the Holey Artisan attack that took place on July 1, 2016.

Nine militants were killed and one escaped during Kalyanpur raid.
